About the Author

I was a computer programmer for many years before I decided to challenge myself with teaching.  As they say, "beware what you wish for...!"  Teaching has been the most difficult and also the most rewarding thing I've ever done (coincidence?).  I've been fortunate to spend the last 5 years at Denver School of the Arts where I had a lot of fun, I learned a lot, and I worked really hard (not necessarily in that order).  In my last year there (just finished) I had 4 different courses to prepare for (8th and 9th grade algebra, regular and AP physics) and about 170 students total.  Even with 7 years experience going in I just found it really exhausting and stressful, to the point where I didn't think I could do my best anymore.  That's when I decided I needed a change.

I enjoy outdoor activities, especially hiking, playing Frisbee and sailing and kayaking (which you can probably tell) and also reading, gardening, drumming, movies, photography, chess, cooking, and vegging out in front of the t.v.

Okay, I said an hour ago that I'd been working on this for a couple hours and now I'm going to quit and get some dinner.  And no, I'm not planning to kayak to S. Korea.  More details on the logistics of all that later.
