My cat-sitting gig ended earlier than expected yesterday when Susan returned early, having chosen to forgo the New York portion of her trip due to weather. So this morning I'm on the road again, headed for
Margie's Cove West campground in the Maricopa mountains SW of Phoenix.
Besides sitting on cats in the last week I also visited the Desert Botanical Gardens and did some exploring north and east of Phoenix in the Tonto National Forest. It was a beautiful day and the hills were covered with California Poppies! Eventually I found a beautiful spot to wade in a tributary of the Verde River which was running very high that afternoon due to lots of outflow from the nearby Horseshoe Reservoir.
There's a possibility I'll get called up for a final round of cat sitting early next week but if not, I've got my water jugs filled and I'm ready to make a final push to meet Alan in Las Vegas two weeks from tomorrow (on 3/21) and drive with him back to Denver.
It's getting warm here! At least 80 today in Phoenix, though cooler and damper weather forecast for the end of the week. I hope you're all well!

A rare outdoor kitty sighting: as a rule they were content to sit inside and very incurious about the out-of-doors. That reminds me of a joke Greg told in Tuscan: "A man takes his cat to the vet and waits in the lobby while the cat is examined. Eventually the vet emerges and the man asks what's wrong with the cat. 'I'm afraid it's curiosity,' says the vet." |

Truth be told, the cacti in the back yard were equally as impressive as those I saw at the Desert Botanical Gardens. |

I love the water! |

Especially running water! |

I thought this driftwood looked like a big snake. |

Time to head home. |

Louie became quite friendly as he got to know me. |
Here's the whole roll (warning, lots of accidental pictures are included, some of which I kept just because I thought they looked cool):
